Below is the belt system for White Tiger Tae Kwon Do. It requires a minimum of three years to attain the rank of Black Belt with a range of four years to six years being an approximate average.

10th gup | White - Signifies innocence, as that of the beginning student who has no previous knowledge of Tae Kwon Do. |

9th gup | Yellow - Signifies the earth from which a plant sprouts and takes root as the foundation of Tae Kwon Do is being laid. |

8th gup | Orange - The color orange signifies the changes of Autumn, as the student's mind and body begin to develop and grow as a result of the new Tae Kwon Do experience. |

7th gup | Green - Signifies the plant's growth as Tae Kwon Do skills begin to develop. |

6th gup | Blue - Signifies the Heaven towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Tae Kwon Do progresses. |

5th gup | Purple - The color purple represents the changing sky of dawn, as once again the student undergoes a new change and prepares for the transition to advanced student. |

4th gup | Brown - The color brown represents the ripening or maturing process as that of the advanced Tae Kwon Do student whose techniques are beginning to mature. |

3rd gup | Red - Signifies Danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and warning the opponent to stay away. |

1st dan | Black - Opposite of white, therefore signifying maturity and proficiency in Tae Kwon Do - also indicates the wearer's imperviousness to darkness and fear. |

** Half steps/white stripe ranks are belt levels where the material presented is significantly difficult to accomplish as a single step. In some circumstances students (mainly adults) may qualify to consolidate and skip white stripe levels and test for full rank.
